DJB Suspends 141 Mining Companies Over Delayed RKAB 2026 Submission

Indonesia's Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (DJB) has issued a temporary suspension of mining activities for 141 mining permit holders that had not submitted their 2026 RKAB as of 16 April 2026.


Companies have been given 90 days from the issuance of the letter to submit their RKAB and obtain approval.


My personal view: this is ultimately a matter of balance.

There are certainly companies on this list that may deserve stronger regulatory action — including some that have been inactive, non-compliant, or unable to meet their obligations.

But this is also a mixed bag.


Not every delayed RKAB submission necessarily reflects bad intent or poor governance. In some cases, there may be administrative bottlenecks, ownership changes, financing issues, permit synchronization problems, or other operational realities.

Some companies may deserve to have their permits revoked. Others may simply deserve a fair opportunity to regularize their position.


So let’s hope the next 90 days are used well — by both regulators and companies — to separate the serious operators from those that should no longer hold permits.
