Metal Detecting Minelab
How does the different coil size affect the metal detector?
Size:
The search coil dimension can affect the performance of metal detectors. The bigger the coil, the more in the detectors can detect, but the sensitivity to small targets will be reduced. On the other hand, the smaller the diameter of the search coil, the more sensitive the detection, but the loss of detection depth. Smaller coils have an advantage in terms of weight, ease of control, and ability to travel through difficult terrain or dense vegetation, thus being selected for use in a land of garbage.
Form:
The metal coil detectors have various shapes, including solid round, elliptical, open web. These forms are designed to meet certain physical needs; for example, the coil elliptical coil can pass through obstacles like a bush or rock more efficiently than a round coil, while the open web coil is best used in water and lighter. Solid round coils generally offer optimal stability and performance, especially preferred in the search for gold.
Configuration:
Coil scrolls are categorized into three common types: Concentric, Double-D, and MonoloopEach kind has a different characteristic based on the pattern of coiled wire inside the search coil.
Coil Concentric has a deep and outer circle roll, offering ideal conical search patterns to determine the exact position of the target but perhaps produce more noise on high mineralization ground.
Double-D Coil, preferred by most detector users, gives a knife - shaped signal or chiseled for uniform coverage of soil and accurate positioning, as well as superior soil balance capabilities.
Monoloop Coil using one single wire roll around the coil for transmission and acceptance, resulting in a conical signal pattern that requires more overlap. Although the monoloop coils may face challenges in the very mineralized soil, they usually offer a little more depth than the Double-D coil.
