Multistage Gold Mineralization at the Wanagon Gold Prospect, Papua, Indonesia
This scientific paper provides an in-depth examination of the genesis and characterization of multistage gold mineralization at the Wanagon Gold Prospect, located in the Ertsberg District, Mimika Regency, Papua. This research is based on the latest exploration data, including intensive drilling from 2007–2011, which has not been widely discussed in previous studies.
Through petrographic analysis, ore microscopy, SEM-EDS, XRD, XRF, and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR), this paper reveals the relationship between gold mineralization and pyrite, prograde–retrograde skarn alteration types, and major geological structural controls.
The results indicate that the Wanagon Gold deposit is primarily a distal gold skarn, with a minor sediment-hosted Au–As component containing “invisible” gold.
This paper is highly relevant to:
1. Exploration geologist and mineral deposit researcher
2. Students of geology, mining, and earth sciences
3. Gold and copper mining industry professionals
4. Academics interested in porphyry–skarn systems in Eastern Indonesia
