What Is CRIRSCO and Why It Matters to Investors?

CRIRSCO stands for Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting StandardsAlthough his name is rarely known outside the professional mining community, CRIRSCO is actually one of the most influential organizations in the global mining industry.

Simply put, CRIRSCO is an international organization that develops a joint framework for exploration, mineral resources, and mineral reserves -- many of the standards of reporting in various countries are actually built on principles and templates developed by CRIRSCO.

If you've heard the term JORC In Australia, KCMI in Indonesia, SAMREC in South Africa, or CIM in Canada, everyone has a very close relationship with CRIRSCO.

The main goal of CRIRSCO is to create consistency in mining reporting around the world. Without uniform standards, it would be very difficult to understand whether the number of resources or reserves reported to have the same meaning.

CRIRSCO thus developed a skeleton known as CRIRSCO TemplateThis template became a reference to various national organizations when they compiled their individual reporting codes.

Although each country can have its own standards, most of the codes that CRIRSCO recognizes have the same principles:

Transparency

The information reported should be clear and not misleading.

Materiality

All important information that can affect the investor's decision must be revealed.

Competence

Reports must be compiled or reviewed by professionals who have relevant experience and competence.

CRIRSCO is also the origin of the concept Competent PersonIn Indonesia this concept is realized through the Competent Person Indonesia (CPI) that work according to the principles of KCMI.

For international investors, the presence of the standard CRIRSCO provides a higher level of trust in mineral resources and reserves, which is therefore reported to be standardized according to CRIRSCO, usually more accessible and more accessible than the global market.

Understanding CRIRSCO, we can understand why standards like JORC and KCMI have similar structures and why Competent Persons are important elements in modern mining reporting.

In short, if JORC is the standard of Australia and KCMI is the standard of Indonesia, then CRIRSCO is the international foundation behind both.
